Mark One Hire Training Centres developed from the needs of staff training for Mark One Hire. When we reached 40 employees we felt the need for a full time trainer within the company to make sure that our staff were correctly qualified and to ensure that an ongoing training programme could be developed and maintained.

In 2007 we became accredited training centres for both IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) and PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers and Manufacturers Association). We then started to get requests from our customers to offer training, initially on a fairly small scale, but happy customers led to requests for more training.

As the training started to gain momentum, we had to increase our trainers and in 2008 built dedicated training facilities at Southend and Chelmsford to keep up with demand.

The ethos of the company is “happy people come back” so we try to ensure people enjoy their training (not a question of just ticking the boxes). The result is that we now find customers have completed several training courses with us and recommend us to others.

ROBIN KING

Robin joined the company in May 2003 as part of the Workshop team. When Mark 1 Hire expanded and opened its third depot at Chelmsford staff restructuring meant that the in-house training needed to be addressed. As all equipment that is off-hired has to go through the Workshop for cleaning and testing, Rob was well placed to become familiar with all of the equipment and volunteered to undertake the in-house training. All new employees need training to enable them to deliver and demonstrate the equipment to customers. In addition to this certain items are seasonal – gardening, air conditioning and heating equipment for instance, so periodically all employees (even the Directors) receive refresher training.

In March 2007 Rob qualified as an IPAF Instructor in the 4 main categories as well as a Harness Instructor.

In September 2007 Rob qualified as a PASMA Instructor which allows him to instruct in the Pasma Standard Operators Course, Working at Heights, Low Level Access, ECA (Electrical Contractors Association) Low Level Access.

In May 2008 he became qualified to instruct in Portable Appliance Testing.

In January 2009 Robin undertook the RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board) Counterbalance Forklift Truck Instructors course, enabling him to give instruction to this high industry standard.

STEVE JONES

Steve Jones - IPAF Instructor No.  I/0006041 Categories 3a Mobile Vertical, 3b Mobile Boom, Harness, Mewps for Managers

PASMA Instructor No. 169535

Steve Jones joined Mark 1 Hire in 2005 and took on training responsibilities in 2008.

Although he has a background in the finance industry Steve has taken to the Hire industry very well and in his words "The people are fun to work with and you get to play with boys toys."

Steve finds the training extremely rewarding, especially when people who are uneasy and nervous become more confident as the training progresses.

Having two fully qualified IPAF and PASMA Instructors, together with two dedicated training centres at Southend and Chelmsford enables us to offer a wider choice of training courses both on site and off site.
